A “whistleblower” is an employee who reports to an outside agency that an employer has broken the law. Under the federal False Claims Act, whistleblowers are protected against retaliation for reporting misconduct.
Oftentimes, these deceitful practices involve withholding money from the government through falsified Medicare or Medicaid claims. If a business’ employee has witnessed his or her employer intentionally violating income obligations, insurance regulations or tax obligations, that person may make a report under the protection of the government.
